Read like a true cozy mystery. There’s a lot of slow build up with character establishments, from how they know each other to how they are as individuals. This made it seem pretty slow and could seem boring to some. I’ve binge watched Midsomer Murder several times over so once I got started in reading this, I felt that very pace. Besides that, there were colloquial terms I wasn’t familiar with, but the book takes place in a country I’ve never been to so I just took the time to reread those sentences to understand it better within the context of that discussion. I totally appreciate the time taken to consider accents as opposed to writing something out and saying “in a Scottish accent”. The writing is so well done, I felt it added to everything and made me want to keep going despite the pace. I really enjoyed it as it’s a change of pace from my usual reading.
If you like shows like Midsomer Murder, cozy mysteries or want to escape to a countryside where His Royal Highness might be seen, give this book a chance. It’s free on Kindle Unlimited.
