📖Legendary Retirement

I realized I drafted this but never posted it because, you know, life? But I’m finally coming around to getting to reviews and this one is worth the time to write about.

Another one of the genres I don’t usually read, but I’ve been eyeballing a lot of the books Aetheon had on their website since I arc read a few romantasies this past year. Plus, I still feel the need to branch outside of the comfort zone so this was a great pick. Fantastic world building, multiple story angles tying into themselves at a central point. Ice cream being very holy.

What fascinates me is the hint of a belief system of one group but also incorporating how other lands and peoples work as their own culture. Of course, there’s the honor of battle and the warrior, the use of magic (mana and healing potions, rune spells) and the presence of alien tech in the form of Tinman, the last of the warminds.

My favorite character is Kandy, son of a bandit king who is allowed to stay in Boomtown, where many of the retired legendary warriors reside. He earns his keep working and takes on training, proving to himself and others that he can be more than what his father said he should have been. He had the most character development, but all of those mentioned grew as we got to learn more about their past in bits and pieces.

This ends in a cliffhanger so I wait with baited breath for Book 2 to come out because I need to know if people are really dead or just lost to the voidspace.

Legendary Retirement is available on KU, Audibook and paperback.
