Aaaahhhhh I feel like im late doing this but I’m actually in the window. For most of what I planted, at least. And this year, I’m trying the toilet paper planter šŸ˜„ I did see Dollar Tree has the paper planters but I’d been saving up as best I could with the tubes. Think it’s a good start and I could still get the pots if I want to.

The cups in the back are the juice cups kids get in school and they also give them at the senior center dad goes to. They’re as good as the 2 inch pots and you just put some holes on the bottom.

I had some leftover seed starter soil so I added more perlite just to make sure the soil doesn’t get touch like a brick. It’s one of the downsides of straight seed starter soil (in my opinion) so I’ve had seedlings basically choked out because I couldn’t plant them in time. So instead of being overgrown, they end up dying from suffocation.

As part of my efforts to be more organized, I’m trying to keep track of what I’ve planted for this year’s crop. This is a screenshot of my board on the official Post-It app. I’ve tried to keep a notebook but, like chaos wills, a notebook wasn’t cutting it. So far, it’s come in handy with noting upcoming deadlines for my arc/ alc reviews and reviews I still need to write of books I finished. Also reminders to read any previous books before I move to a book 2 and other things like when to pay bills and so forth.

I’ve planted 13 different crops of the 20 or so hopeful things to grow this year. In a month, I’ll try to get some Winter Squash going and anything else that can survive a summer. No Summer squash or cucumbers yet only because I don’t have the setup still for them and that sucks to me. But things like bush beans need to go straight into the ground so that’s not happening till at least mid March. We’re still stuck under a lot of leftover snow and use from the ā€œonce in a generationā€ snow storm that came to NYC. My garden is still under a couple inches of snow, based on how much of my garden beds I can see now.

šŸ˜‚My garden beds are still looking hung over from last season so there’s a bunch of stuff sticking out and looking very dead. I can’t wait to get that cleared, too. This will be my third or fourth year gardening and I have no intention of giving it up. It got me through the pandemic after mom passed during lockdown. Gardening was what she used to do, in her chaotic way. So I’m keeping that hobby alive for her.

With the world in turmoil, it’s good to get back to something other than books. A safe space to just clear your mind and feel the joy of growing stuff with your own two hands.
