FAQs

What is an ARC/ ALC?

ARC (Advanced Reader Copy), ALC (Advanced Listener Copy)

These are given to people to review before a book is released to the public. These are usually unedited versions of the product before they go to sale to gain reviews to help boost and hype the product before the rest of the world has access to it. Readers and listeners have to sign up for a chance to be a part of those teams and not everyone gets picked, especially for big authors like Meghan Quinn and Emily McIntyre. These are especially helpful to indie authors trying to get their start in the book work.

Do you get compensation for doing reviews?

The compensation is the advanced copy in return for an honest review. Basically, it’s like getting a free book. It’s not the final book, but publishers and authors are looking to get your review in return for having access to a book before release.

I have never asked for payment, especially from an indie author, because doing promotions like working with a PR company that will get you arc readers, is a lot of money. Some have no choice but do everything themselves while doing their day job. If you’re lucky, you can get a print copy of the advanced book, but the reality is that you’re more likely to get an e-book and that’s totally fair.

Why do this if you don’t get paid?

Again, this is to help promote the work of a good author who’s just starting out. Getting access to the book early is the payment. While we all dream of getting paid to read books, the reality is that businesses cost money and these small time folks gotta start somewhere. Free book for you in exchange for an honest review is more and an equivalent exchange.

What if I want to ask you to review my book?

Reach out to me on my Contact page! Whether it’s an advanced copy or already released, I’ll give an honest review. I also swear that no copy will be released for piracy because authors have worked hard for that book and have to earn a living. Your work will never go beyond my Kindle or Apple Books app.
