I’m on my nonsense again with not posting as much here. To be fair, I have been doing more feature and promo posts so i don’t think about those going on here like they should be. Partially, this is due to lack of social energy. I know this is meant to be part of my book girlie life, and I apologize to those that follow for that very content. I promise I’m trying to do better and get back to that while also making sure I am healthy enough to do that.
Bread Journey
While I’m working on that, I’ve gotten back to my journey into sourdough. I never jumped on that trend when the world went pear shaped and everyone was stuck indoors. But, one of my specialists said that sourdough is okay for my diet. Plenty say it’s good for the gut and I’m not getting any younger.
Today I have achieved it! Sorta… I used a sourdough flatbread recipe and adapted it, adding in dry yeast and sugar to get the extra rise. My original starter, Doughe (pronounced Doge), wasn’t as active as I thought it was so the extra boost helped.
Of course, this loaf is as tall as a Foccacia and I coulda done that. I just wasn’t sure how high the dough was going to rise. Work in progress.
Also, if I must admit, the other part of me doing this is because dad got spoiled when the local pantry had an influx of Trader Joe sourdough and he didn’t want to pay $6 for a half loaf at the local supermarket 😤 Fair point when a bag of AP flour costs under $6 and all you need is time and elbow grease to make multiple loaves.
My next ideal loaf will be this small batch recipe from Pantry Mama. Since it’s just me and dad, this is perfect. And I don’t eat bread all the time so definitely a win win.

If anyone started having that Dave Matthews song pop into their head, you’re not alone 😂
I joined the arc team to read book 2 coming Mid June and this book is having me hooked! Multiracial Urban Fantasy surrounded by Japanese folklore in the heart of America. I know, sounds complicated but it’s been a great read over the long holiday so I will get a review for that done once I finish in a few days. It is available on Kindle Unlimited, hard cover and paperback but I believe you can order the physicals from a local bookstore. I’ll get back to you in that when I find out. Check out the GoodReads link above in the meanwhile.
Gardening
There’s been f*ckall progress since we’ve basically been in Spring/Fall here in NYC for months. It’s frickin’ May and the heat came on last night. I’m not lying. It went to like 50F overnight. In May. When last year Summer came early and half my crop died.
I did the starting indoors thing to get ahead of the season and just about every one of those died in the house. Can’t say I blame them when even I would when the weather refuses me the chance to fix the hot mess outside. Only think I got growing are scallions blooming to seed 😮💨 It’s super annoying but I’m trying to be patient. This week should be better and maybe I can rescue the remainder of the gardening season.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Colleges are entering graduation season and so that means Summer scheduling. That will give me time to work on said hot mess and turn things around.
Until the next post! 🍞✨
